How Mechanical Engineering at REVA is future ready?
Over the last 250 years, we have experienced four different industrial revolutions that have changed our understanding of humanity from head to toe. With the Industry 4.0 we are entering new era (Education 4.0), where learning must also change entirely.
Industry 4.0 is the name given to the new fourth industrial revolution that emerged with the control of production processes by data-supported scientific methods and intelligent production structures.
The way Industrial Revolution 4.0 is transforming the world, technologies like Internet of Things (IoT), Big Data, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Robotics, 3D printing, Virtual reality, Augmented reality and Automation are impacting major industries, and in turn jobs. This implies that Industry 4.0 will not only affect industries but consequently will transform the way jobs and education will be seen. This will result in the evolution of education 4.0.
Thus, it can be said that the fourth industrial revolution will affect the roles for which today’s students will be prepared. This will require educational institutions to produce workforce for working in this technologically transformed era. Further, it will also require the current workforce to upgrade their skills and knowledge to match these newly created job roles. For this revolution in education is essential to enable people worldwide to harness the opportunities created by the advent of these new technologies.
The Industrial Revolution 4.0 will reduce the gap between digital and physical world. Keeping ultramodern developments in view, an amalgamation of physical and digital systems will prove to be revolutionary. To elevate from the current state universities are required to prepare curriculum, academicians and students alike. Thus academia should weigh their capabilities putting effort to equip our generations with latest knowledge and skills to face future realism. Universities are required to enhance their approach and methods of education. Latest technologies such as Big Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, Augmented Reality, and Internet of Things, Cloud Computing and other advancements need to be focused in order for students to learn its application.
Is IR 4.0 helping the education industry? Why do education institutions need curriculum 4.0?
Education 4.0 is nothing but the curriculum of the future. It is about evolving with the times, and for higher education institutions, this means understanding what is required of their future graduates. Updating the content and delivery of the education system should be an urgency.
Modern learning cannot happen without modernizing delivery. Faculty 4.0 should go hand in hand with Curriculum 4.0. Teachers should focus their efforts on using technological applications that aid cognitive learning abilities. Learning outcomes should be based on personalized adaptive learning techniques. Intelligent digital assets should guide teaching concepts. Teacher-student interaction should be based on a smart approach to make the whole experience engaging and interesting.
School of Mechanical Engineering, REVA University has made its Course curriculum completely aligned with the industry requirements. Students passing out are exposed to the latest trends short term industry oriented courses offered during the summer internships, skill development activities, tailor made courses by industry experts, Professional body memberships, Center of excellence etc.. . These courses go a long way in enhancing the already acquired skills during the semester. Another area that is greatly emphasized upon is soft skills.
The aim is to reducing the academia-industry gap and ensure that the future graduates are ready for the industry which includes Professional Skills and Industry Readiness skills to prepare young graduate for new era of Jobs.
