Between the lines 4.0 - Digital Architecture and Indian Knowledge systems

Between the lines 4.0 - Digital Architecture and Indian Knowledge systems

In an era defined by rapid technological advancement and digital transformation, architecture stands at a crossroads between innovation and tradition. The International Conference on Digital Architecture and Indian Knowledge Systems aims to explore the convergence of cutting-edge digital methodologies with the profound wisdom embedded in India's architectural heritage.

This interdisciplinary platform invites architects, scholars, technologists, researchers, and students from across the globe to delve into the relevance and application of Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) — such as Vāstu Shāstra, traditional building sciences, sacred geometry, and regional vernacular practices — in contemporary digital architectural practices.

The conference will spotlight how digital tools such as parametric design, computational modeling, AI, AR/VR, and digital fabrication can be employed to reinterpret and revitalize traditional Indian frameworks. It also aims to foster discourse around sustainability, cultural continuity, and innovation in architectural design and pedagogy.

By bridging tradition and technology, the conference envisions a future where Indian knowledge systems are not merely preserved but dynamically adapted to modern design challenges.

Objectives of the conference

  • To promote sustainable and culturally rooted architectural practices (Aligned with SDG 11 & SDG 13)
  • To integrate Indian Knowledge Systems into architectural education and research (Aligned with SDG 4)
  • To foster innovation in digital architecture through heritage-informed technologies (Aligned with SDG 9 & SDG 11)
  • To enable inclusive knowledge sharing and collaborative learning (Aligned with SDG 4 & SDG 17)
  • To support climate-responsive and low-carbon architectural design (Aligned with SDG 13)
  • To preserve and digitally document India's intangible architectural heritage (Aligned with SDG 11.4)
