Report on REVA KNOWLEDGE SERIES 1 INSYNC with HERITAGE

School of Architecture, REVA University organized an online webinar titled REVA KNOWLEDGE SERIES 1.0- INSYNC with HERITAGE On 15 June 2021. The programme was open to external participants and students of School of Architecture. A total of 90 participants registered and joined for the online session held on MS Teams platform.

The first talk was given by conservation specialist Ar. Pankaj Modi. Ar. Modi is the technical project co-ordinator for INTACH Bangalore and South Zone Representative for ICOMOS India. He is also the Co-founder of Saythu- a socially engaged collaborative heritage practice. He shared with us his perspective of heritage, its significance and the role of INTACH in conserving our built heritage. Ar. Modi’s presentation was well received by the audience and there was a short discussion session following the lecture regarding the practice of adaptive reuse, everyday heritage and relevance of learning History of Architecture.

The 2nd session of the day was delivered by Ar. Neeraja Jayan, Associate professor, RUSOA. Ar. Neeraja is also a conservation architect and is passionate about documenting and conserving vernacular heritage.  Ar. Neeraja spoke about the relevance of travel in architecture and also highlighted the various study trips and documentation projects carried out by RUSOA in the past 5 years. She explained in detail the process that goes into the preparation of a documentation study trip and the outcomes that such projects have generated at the School of Architecture. Participants were enthralled to hear about the importance of travel and documentation in architecture and we are sure that the presentation has inspired many of them to actively pick up travel as one of the modes of engaging with architecture.

Prof. Vidya Srikanth, Director, School of Architecture delivered the vote of thanks. She expressed gratitude to the resource persons and the participants for their enthusiastic participation. She also expressed RUSOA’s willingness for continued engagement with heritage through studio projects, documentation studies and collaboration with INTACH.

The 1-day online programme was conceptualized by Prof. Vidya Srikanth, Director, School of Architecture, REVA University with contributions by the team including Prof. Shubhi S, Prof. Prerana Hazarika and Md. Imtiyazullah Khan. We would like to thank the team and management at REVA University for their constant support and encouragement.
