A 4 day Skill development programme titled- Traditional Folk art heritage: An insight into Gond art was organized for students of 2nd semester, B.Arch. As per the curriculum such skill enhancement activities are included under Architectural Workshop, a 2 credit course in the B.Arch. curriculum.

Folk art covers all forms of visual art made in the context of culture. The objective of this workshop was to introduce the students about the Folk Art of various communities in India and to reflect the cultural life of the particular community.

Resource person- Dr. Anupama R M has formulated a 4 days’ workshop for the architecture students to get inspiration on various materials and do a product design based on the idea of Painting Gond Art.

Day 1: Students were given an introduction and lecture on Folk Art and different types of Folk Art and Gond Painting with examples. Students were instructed to collect some 10 Gond Artists Names and paintings. 
Students selected the painting of famous artists and recreated the same by sketching on the paper to adopt the style of Gond Art.
Day 2: Resource person gave a demonstration on how to execute the detailing of Gond Art and students started painting under the guidance of the resource person and submitted the work.
Day 3: Students were given a new challenge to create a painting based contemporary life following the Gond style. Students sketched under the guidance of the resource person and started painting.
Day 4: Students were instructed to Experiment with different media such as wood, hand kerchief, water bottle, fabric etc. and paint on them.

The outcomes of this 4 day workshop led the students to produce 3 to 4 beautiful art works using varied media.
Students participated with lot of enthusiasm and fun.
The brainstorming and creative exercises carried out as a part of this workshop help develop their intellectual skills.
