Swachha Bharath Abhiyan

The NSS unit of REVA University, in collaboration with the School of Applied Sciences, 39 KAR BN NCC B Coy of REVA University, and BBMP, organised a “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan” initiative on January 16, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. The event, held as part of the NSS course, focused on promoting cleanliness and sustainability, with activities spanning from REVA Circle to Mittaganhalli Gate. A total of 27 NSS volunteers from the School of Applied Sciences, 25 NCC cadets, and 10 BBMP staff actively participated in the program. This effort aligns with the objectives of the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) and directly contributes to Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6).

The Learning Objectives of the program are:

  • To understand the developmental challenges regarding sanitation infrastructure and practices.
  • To build values of cleanliness, hygiene and waste management in diverse socio-economic contexts.
  • To understand the planning of social policy and programmes.
  • To use waste management techniques at the community level.
  • To instil a sense of service towards society and the Nation.

The Learning Outcomes of the program are:

  • Understanding the significance of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
  • Ability to analyse and predict the sanitation challenges of India
  • Determine the link between sanitation and development.
  • Contribute to the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan through real-time projects/fieldwork

In essence, both SDG 6.4 and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan aim to create a cleaner, healthier environment by focusing on water management, sanitation, and public awareness, contributing to the sustainable development of the country.

This program aims to improve sanitation and eliminate open defecation. The SBM has helped India achieve the Open Defecation Free (ODF) target in all districts.

Suggested Activities: List of activities undertaken:

  • Identified plastic and e-waste in and around the hotels, and main roads, and suggested innovative technologies to minimise wastage.
  • Visited canteen/shops and tracked the lifecycle of wet/dry waste in and around REVA University and documented the findings in the form of a project report.
  • Organised Swachhata Pakhwada meetings before the cleaning drive at the main gate of REVA University.
