Talk on Architectural Internship

Agenda: Discussion on criteria and process for Architectural Internship

Participants: 33 Students, 7th Semester, School of Architecture

Faculties of School of Architecture have arranged a talk and interactive season for the students of 7th Semester School of Architecture. As per the guideline prescribed by Council of Architecture, and approved by MHRD, students from school of Architecture have to undergo, a one year of internship, for 8th and 9th Semester. Hence, it is essential to bring awareness about the Internship criteria and requirement from preparing portfolio, selecting firm, applying, working and completion.

Student comprehended the basic criteria:

  • Work in office who does Architectural Practice
  • Supervisor/Trainer should be an architect registered with Council of Architecture
  • Periodic Assessment by the architect/trainer must reach the school
  • Duration 1 year / 2 semester / 32 weeks

Students were illustrated with live examples, the type of work to be considered as learning from Internship

  • Process of development of conceptual ideas (Outcome: Sketches, Drawings, Working Model, 3D, Report, Site Analysis etc.)
  • Presentation skills (Outcome: Powerpoint, Photoshop, 3Ds, Tabulation etc.)
  • Involvement in office discussions (Outcome: Brainstorming, Sketches, Notes, etc.)
  • Client  meetings (Outcome: Talking skill, presentation)
  • Development  of  the  concepts  into  working  drawings (Outcome: Working Drawings: REVIT, AutoCAD
  • Tendering  procedure (Outcome: Learning techniques of tendering)
  • Site  supervision  during  execution (Outcome: On site experiences)
  • Coordination  with  the  agencies (Outcome: Multidisciplinary involvement, Vendors and Materials)

Students were also explained about the documentation essential for Internship

  • Appointment/Offer letter: Before beginning of the internship to the faculty in-charge
  • Attendance: Monthly attendance to be submitted to Faculty in charge
  • Periodic Assessment by the architect/trainer must reach the school
  • Internship Completion Certificate: End of each semester, before beginning of next semester internship

All the faculty speakers, shared their experience and wisdom on how to select offices, how to work and create positive environment during internship and leave a positive feedback. Tips for creating CV, Portfolio making and list of Architectural offices has been shared. Students get benefitted with the season and showed sincerity.
