Department of Chemistry, School of Applied Sciences, REVA University, Bangalore, organized expert webinar entitled Natural Nano Materials Chemistry Exemplified by Cellulosic Fibre and Products” on 14-06-2020, by Dr. Ramjee Subramanian, ITC Limited, Senior Lead technologist, Paper, Materials, and Packaging Science & Technology, Bangalore, India.
Following points were explained:
Naturally abundant, biodegradable, and sustainable cellulosic fibres, obtained from wood and agriculture residues, are composed of smaller and progressively mechanically stronger entities. These smaller structural load bearing cellulosic fibrils can be separated by a combination of mechanical and chemical treatments. Engineered nano biopolymers and inorganic minerals have the potential to create new material properties and applications. This lecture will bring forth the critical features of the following: Wood value chain, Production of fibres and nanocellulose, characterization, and its application in manufacturing industries.
Tips to adapt for the future
Aiming to simulate breakthrough concepts thinking, that illustrate the production of a novel composite paper composed of nano cellulosic fibrils and precipitated calcium carbonate as the backbone structure reinforced with long fibres. The lecture was attended by all 2nd and 4 semester students, research scholars and faculty of chemistry REVA University and in around Bangalore.
