Ms.Divya Balagopal is the co-founder and senior partner of Mundkur Law Partners (MLP), a boutique, multi-award winning corporate and M&A law firm, based in Bangalore. She heads the firm’s education law and regulatory policy development practices.

Ms.Divya holds a Master’s degree from the Institute de Hautes Études Internationals et du Development (The Graduate Institute), Geneva, in International Law and Human Rights and an honours degree from the National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bangalore.

Ms.Divya stared as a junior at the chambers of then New Delhi advocate Ms.Indu Malhotra (currently a judge of the Supreme Court of India). Thereafter, she worked for brief periods at a law firm in Boston, Massachusetts, and the UN Children’s Fund in Geneva, before returning to India and co-founding MLP in 2007. Ms.Divya focused on education, policy drafting and dispute resolution. MLP’s education law practice provides end-to-end legal services to education-related businesses and public-private partnership initiatives in the education and ed-tech space. In addition to advisory legal services,

Ms.Divya works on policy drafting and advises state governments on child protection policies, child rights, and on education law and policy. She serves on various advisory committees related to education, women and child protection and as an external member on numerous Internal Complaints Committees, constituted under the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013. Ms.Divya conducts workshops on workplace safety, child protection as well as policy drafting. Ms.Divya is an integral member of the core drafting committee of the State of Karnataka, State Child Protection Policy – the first of its kind in India, and a knowledge partner to the Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights. She is also on the Consultative Council to the Akshayapatra Foundation and a member of FICCI ARISE.

Ms.Divya is also empanelled as a commercial arbitrator by the Indian Institute of Arbitration and Mediation. She has appeared before various courts and tribunals in tax and property disputes.

MS.Divya speaks multiple languages and enjoys exploring new avenues and creating linkages – often taking the firm’s expertise to areas not traditionally associated with corporate law firms. For example, she was the lead legal expert in the team that MLP fielded in South Sudan in 2013 to assist the then, newly formed nation on child rights, civil registration and related issues.
