Be it a hot summer day, a thunderous rainy evening, or a cold winter night. Every single day, every single season, every single festival, the heroes of our Indian National Army protect the Indian borders. They fight terrorists and intruders and risk their lives so they can keep us safe.
We, the citizens of India, don’t need to worry about our security. We travel to our workspaces, schools, colleges, or public spaces, without worrying about being attacked. All of this is only possible because of the brave men who stand guard at the borders. Who stands the risk of losing their lives in an attempt to protect our lives. To respect their dedication and sacrifice, we celebrate the National Army Day in salute to the Bravehearts of India.
Why do we celebrate National Army Day?
India spent 200 years under British rule. After a prolonged fight for freedom, India attained Independence on 15th August 1947. During this period, the country went through many circumstances and struggles that directly affected national peace. It was during such a time that the Army came forward to control the situation.
At that time, British General Sir Francis Butcher was serving as the last Non-Indian Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army. This was the right time to hand over the command of the Indian Army to an Indian. Hence on 15th January 1949, Field Marshal Kodandera M. Cariappa became the first army Commander-in-Chief of Independent India.
Since then this occasion was truly remarkable for the Indian Army and 15th January was chosen as the auspicious day to celebrate National Army Day. Since then the tradition continued, marking 15th January 2020 the 72nd Army Day.
