William Faulkner said it so beautifully – “Never be afraid to raise your voice for honesty and truth and compassion against injustice and lying and greed. If people all over the world...would do this, it would change the earth.” Your voice is your identity and you should never be shy to express your opinions. Sometimes, you might think that raising voice is not that important as you are just a student, but to be honest, that is not the case at all. As a student, you should become more responsible to raise your voice against the injustice that is prevalent in society. Raise your concerns against the negativity that is thriving in the community and be proactive because every voice matters to change or guide society.
Be bold, brave, and confident in your opinions and you will find that the whole world is your playground. When someone requests you to do something, inevitably, you may follow it based on the norms even though you lose self-identity. Of course, you should obey your elders, but it is necessary to evaluate the situation before taking any actions. In case if you do not agree with the opinions of others, then you should strongly express your perception. Never do anything that your gut rejects you to do because we should not doubt our instincts.
Raise your voice to create awareness amongst people if you care for a particular social cause. For example, if you would like to raise your voice against global warming, then speak up and make people know the side effects of global warming. Raise awareness that not only humanity suffers because of global warming but also every other living being on the earth including all sources of flora and fauna are getting affected by this disastrous phenomenon. When you start raising concerns over social issues, people will start noticing the issue and support you for the cause. That is why every voice matters.
Casting your vote for a democratic rule is also an example. If you are above 18 and have suffrage, you must not refrain from voting. Show that you are a responsible citizen by utilising your right to vote. Many citizens including students think that it is not necessary to cast votes because a shortage of 1 or 2 votes does not matter at all. However, they forget the fact that if 10,000 students think in the same way, then the result will not be the same. In such scenarios as well, every voice matters.
As a student, join a few clubs to stay active regarding social awareness. Speak up and raise your voice and words to create a difference.
