At the School of Architecture, REVA University, we are committed to providing state-of-the-art facilities and an academic environment that nurtures creativity, innovation, and professionalism. The B.Sc. (Hons.) (Interior Design) program is designed as a four-year (8-semester) undergraduate course that blends creativity with technical expertise, aligning with industry expectations and global standards.
The curriculum draws from multiple facets of design education, including design fundamentals, digital tools, material exploration, building services, history and theory of design, ergonomics, and sustainability. A strong focus is placed on design studios, which form the backbone of the program and encourage experiential, project-based learning. These are complemented by theory courses, electives, professional training, and a capstone project, creating a balance of knowledge, skills, and application.
The curriculum aims to develop a vast base of knowledge blending creative design capabilities, technical expertise, and professional education. The program is based on the credit and semester system with continuous evaluation and semester-end exams.
Continuous Internal Assessments (CIA) including tests, assignments, quizzes, and seminars.
Semester End Examinations (SEE) for theory and practical/viva assessments.
Design studios and professional project work are evaluated progressively through internal and external reviews and jury assessments. Grading is awarded on a scale from 'O' (Outstanding) to 'F' (Fail), which contributes to the Semester Grade Point Average (SGPA) and Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA). Students must achieve the prescribed minimum CGPA to be eligible for the award of the degree. Revaluation and challenge valuation facilities may be available as per university regulations.
The program requires professional training of 32 weeks (16+16 weeks) under the guidance of practicing architects, which may be completed anywhere in India or abroad.
Students participate in study tours each semester to explore architectural sites and gain exposure to real-world design environments. The final year includes a thesis project that enables students to demonstrate their acquired architectural and interior design knowledge through an independent design-based project. Each student is assigned a faculty advisor and mentor who guide academic and personal development through a structured mentor-mentee system.
The School Advisory Board and the Board of Studies, comprising experienced architects and academicians, oversee admissions, curriculum development, and academic standards. Academic audits, feedback mechanisms, and statutory compliance processes are implemented to ensure quality education. A minimum attendance of 75% per semester is required to appear for examinations. Students are expected to adhere to REVA University's code of conduct, and disciplinary action may be taken for violations.
Program Structure
- Foundation Phase (Semesters 1–2): Introduction to design fundamentals, technical drawing, digital design tools, color theory, and design history. Students acquire basic creative, analytical, and representational skills.
- Exploration Phase (Semesters 3–4): Emphasis on space planning, anthropometry, furniture design, material studies, building services, and sustainable design practices. Students begin integrating technical knowledge with creative problem-solving.
- Application Phase (Semesters 5–6): Advanced studios focusing on residential, commercial, and specialized interiors, along with exposure to professional practice, lighting design, graphics, and retail/exhibition design. Students develop independent design concepts supported by research and innovation.
- Professional Phase (Semesters 7–8): Internship/industry training, electives, and a final thesis/project that demonstrates the student's ability to handle real-world design challenges independently and professionally.
Key Learning Outcomes
- Demonstrate expertise in anthropometry, ergonomics, renovation, interior landscape design, and building services.
- Apply goal setting, project management, research, conceptualization, and documentation methods effectively.
- Exhibit design thinking, problem-solving, and material selection skills for diverse project types.
- Develop ethical, sustainable, and human-centered design approaches that respond to cultural, environmental, and technological contexts.
- Gain confidence in pre-design and post-design services, contract administration, and multidisciplinary collaboration.
Programme Educational Objectives (PEOs)
PEO 1: Graduates will demonstrate professional competency in interior design by applying creative, technical, and managerial skills to design functional, aesthetic, and sustainable interior environments within 3-4 years of graduation.
PEO 2: Graduates will excel in multidisciplinary collaboration, effectively communicating design concepts through diverse media, digital tools, and emerging technologies, while working with professionals across allied domains.
