REPORT OF SKILL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME ON “PLANT TISSUE CULTURE & DNA FINGER PRINTING”
Date: 29th to 30th Nov 2018

The Skill Development Programme was conducted by the School of Applied Sciences, REVA University for the 1st year M.Sc. students (48) on 29th and 30th November 2018. The SDP was conducted on “Plant Tissue Culture and DNA Fingerprinting’’.The resource persons for the day were Prof. Renuka Madhu, Associate professor, Dept. of Biotechnology and Dr. Ramachandra R, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Biotechnology.

DAY 1- On the first day students were given training to prepare the explants and the media preparation followed by inoculation. This session was taken up Prof. Renuka Madhu and Dr. Ramachandra R. Both theoretical and hands-on sessions were taken.

DAY 2- On the second day DNA finger printing session was organised by Prof. Renuka Madhu and Dr. Ramachandra R. Students got hands on experience in DNA isolation, gel electrophoresis, gel documentation and interpretation of results.
Students enthusiastically participated in the two day SDP programme. The session concluded with the information on the applications of these techniques in the field of life Sciences.
