Report on Faculty Development Programme on “Statistical tools in research and data analysis in Life sciences”

The Department of Biotechnology had organized a faculty development programme on Statistical tools in research and data analysis in Life sciences. The resource person for the session was Dr.K. P. Suresh, Principal Scientist(Biostatistics), National Institute of Veternary Epidemiology and Disease Informatics (NIVEDI), Yelahanka, Bangalore-64.  Faculty members from the Department of Biotechnology and Biochemistry participated in the FDP. 

The session started with the introduction of the resource person by Prof. Renuka Madhu, Assistant Professor, Department of Biotechnology, followed by the technical talk by Dr. K.P. Suresh. The speaker started introducing the basics of the statistical world, illustrating with few case studies. He enlightened us with the proper use of statistical tools and techniques for different studies.

Emphasis was made on parametric and non-parametric tests, used for different research methodologies and interpretation of the same for statistically inferring the analysis as significant. 
Post lunch session was hands-on practical training of usage of online statistical software for the estimation of sample size and testing significance using parametric tests.
