Techniques For Research And Publishing In Management & Social Sciences

The School of Management Studies, REVA University, had organized a Eight day Faculty Development workshop on the topic. “TECHNIQUES FOR RESEARCH AND PUBLISHING IN MANAGEMENT & SOCIAL SCIENCES’’ from 22nd to 30th August 2022.The Eight Day workshop consisted of 5 days offline and 3 days online session.The resource persons were Dr.Binod Rajak,Mr.Rushabh Trivedi, Dr. S.K.Varshney and Ms.Rashmi Tyagi.The FDP program started with a formal Inaugural programme on 22nd Aug which was graced by Vice Chancellor ,Registrar and Dean RBS.The total participants enrolled are 77 faculty and research scholars from School of Management studies, School of Commerce and from various other colleges and Universities.FDP was effective in faculty have hands on session on learning the techniques of research

This FDP was designed to promote research among the participants by imparting research skills, research methodology and application of scientific tools in research. This faculty development programme acquainted participants with contemporary research methods and techniques of research and publishing. Also, this FDP aimed in imparting skills to participants on how to apply for grants from various funding agencies. This 8-days Faculty Development program enabled participants to develop sound theoretical foundation in research writing, filing for patents, grants and also practical execution in Hands-on-mode.

The following section provides a Day-wise report of topics:

Day 1 (Importance and Anatomy of Research) by Dr.Binod Rajak

The session gave a complete understanding of basic concepts of research,identifying research topics and selecting appropriate research design.It also included understanding anatomy of research in terms of what all should be included in the title,abstract ,introduction etc

Day 2 (Role of theory in Research process) by Dr.Binod Rajak

The session highlighted the importance of understanding the theory in research.He also explained that many papers get rejected because of no sound theory in the research paper.Sir explained how the components of the theory should be identified.

Day 3 (Hypothesis Development) by Dr Rushabh Trivedi

The session started with understanding what are constructs,variables leading to hypothesis development.Sir gave a complete insight into moderation and mediation variables and he demonstrated how model building is done. Additionally, the ranking of journals with the help of ABDC, ABS, Scimago lists etc., are discussed. Finally, the journal scope needs to be considered to send your research articles.

Day 4 (Introduction to Multivariate Data Analysis ) by Dr Rushabh Trivedi

The session started with explaining the concept. Construct, operationalizing and its reliability and validity measures. Sir explained different multivariate techniques and the most common methods.Further, different statistical tools were explained and more importantly SEM Modeling technique was explained. Multiple tips were provided to analyze the data better and demonstrate it systematically.

Day 5 (Research report writing) by Dr Rushabh Trivedi

This session demonstrated the different sections of the research paper and how the writing process would be sequenced for better results. Each section that is the introduction, literature review, theoretical background, Result, Discussion and conclution was explained by showing research paper examples and was highly effective in getting idea of research paper writing.

Day 6 (Reference Management & Tips to Reduce Plagiarism) by Dr Binod Rajak

The session has highlighted the need of referencing and why referencing is ethical in research. Further, the participants got tips and techniques of proper refereeing. Finally, the virtual demonstration of Mendeley software was included to make the idea of easy referencing appropriate.

Day 7(Effective Grant Writing) by Dr.S.K.Varshney

This session started with introduction of theoretical background of grant writing. Then disussion went for writing grant proposals for applied sciences and social sciences. Dr. Varshney also dicussed certain examples which were highly effective. Also, there was discussion on presenting the grant in precise and concise manner.

Day 8 (Patent Filing & Drafting Procedure in India ) by Ms.Rashmi Tyagi

This session strated with introduction of patent and copyrights. Then Ms. Tyagi dicussed about patent publication and filing the published patent for grant approval with respect to Indian context. The session was concluded with Q&A session with resource person.

Overall, FDP was interactive and being offline benefitted the inhouse participants to gain more knowledge and hands on experience.The resource persons also answered the questions of participants related to publishing and their PhD thesis.Various techniques of writing and publishing quality research papers were deliberated taking example of published research papers. Overall, all resource persons have engaged the participants in a very productive way, and they were delighted to know about research and about for applying for grants. Finally, the session ended by thanking the resource person. The participants also complimented the organizing of this FDP and timely communication by Team REVA at the School of Management studies.
