Empowering Women is the right way to develop the Nation

Empowering Women is the right way to develop the Nation

Women’s day is an occasion to celebrate womanhood worldwide, a day to celebrate and appreciate the women in our lives – our mothers, wives, daughters, friends, to celebrate the women who contribute in small ways and big to their families and the world around them. I sincerely believe that this celebration in its true sense is all about achieving and celebrating gender equality, diversity and inclusivity.

Empowerment of women has become a necessity for a sustainable development of our society. Speaking of women empowerment in our nation, our PM’s flagship scheme ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ is a progress in the path of safety, protection and better education of the girl child throughout the nation. With necessary steps, rights of girl child are now being acknowledged by majority of the society. India is witnessing a gradual perceptible shift in outlook of people as regards to gender inequality. At REVA we are making every effort to build a progressive culture so that we can proudly march towards gender diversity and equality.

Inclusivity – At REVA, we foster a culture that focuses on gender inclusion by creating a work atmosphere and an environment that treats their staff equally, irrespective of gender.  We create job descriptions that emphasize qualifications to fit job roles and not specific gender, we attract talent and proactively source a gender diverse pipeline.

Unbiased selection – Unconscious biases in workplaces that go unnoticed exist in many workplaces. It’s a harsh reality that many would agree upon. By setting up a pre-determined set of criteria and qualifications needed for a job, REVA embarks on a path where we recognize these biases and curb them right from the hiring process.

Fair compensation – Compensating fairly, regardless of gender, is a mandate for hiring and retaining our valuable talent at REVA. We are committed to set compensation bands for each job title, considering their experience, skills, qualifications, performance and using these as a yardstick to establish and maintain the fair compensation.

Women and the education sector:
To educate a woman is to educate the whole family. Education is the key factor for women empowerment as it enables them to confront challenges, improve their socio-economic life-style and enrich their role in the home and society.

For women empowerment to happen in the real sense, a chain of reforms is essential, which includes educating the girl child irrespective of social, cultural and economic backgrounds, more educational institutions being open in rural areas, facilitating minimum necessary education for the girl child at least until class 12 by making educational loans available if need be, creating more job opportunities for women in both rural as well as urban areas and more importantly, striving hard to foster a society that realizes that true change and growth stems from the most powerful tool – the education of its women.  Our belief and conviction in education and its transformational power gets reflected in the range and variety of new academic programs that we plan to float this academic year.  The premium program at REVA Business School that, we have launched bears testimony to our thrust on quality education.

This emphasis on education being an instrument of social transformation is reflected through our collective dream called “Abhivriddhi” where in REVA has adopted ten Government Schools in the rural landscape with the sole aim of participatory transformation and upgradation of these schools through education.

At REVA, we strive hard to bring about this change in whatever small way that we can, keeping in mind that every small step towards gender equality, inclusivity and diversity is a victory towards the responsibility we owe to each girl child, each woman of this country. We offer special scholarships to girls in our humble attempt to encourage and facilitate women's education and empowerment. Our work culture and environment are a testimony to our efforts to promote our women staff and stand by them through their professional journey, helping them grow and evolve with us. That, we believe, is our true pride and commitment towards education and our country..
