Keeping away from our gadgets and reducing our screen time have been constant challenges that most of us have been trying to work on in today’s internet dependent world. Having said that, taking to technology, to keep ourselves abreast with our lessons for our online learning has become inevitable in the days of this pandemic.
Virtual classrooms have become a normal scene in every household and have completely taken over the real classroom atmosphere and seamlessly so. One can’t but wonder how quickly we have all accepted the new normal and taken to technology. While virtual classrooms are the best choice in the current scenario, they still have challenges that we need to understand and overcome so that they are made use of with maximum efficiency.
Here are a few tipsto keep in mind while attending online classes.
- Discipline – While most educational institutions have resorted to imparting lessons online, some have resorted to video lessons while some others have adopted live online classes. In both cases, having a fixed time to sit for these classes brings in much needed discipline in learning. Sticking to time slots and being on time to these classes creates a sense of accountability to self and adds to the learning experience.
- Grooming well – It is easy to prey fall for the ease of getting out of bed and logging on to the computer for online lessons. With a still sleepy brain and lethargy hanging around, concentration becomes a difficult thing to achieve. It is a good idea to take a shower, groom yourself neatly and present yourself well, whether or not someone is monitoring you, before going online.
- Environment – Keep your online learning environment clutter free, well ventilated and distraction free. Keep any other gadget away and resist the urge to browse or do anything else when class is going on. Keep all writing supplies handy and get organized before class. A well organized, pleasant environment goes a long way in effective learning.
- Make notes and reflect – When communication is one way, more attention should be paid to taking notes of the lessons. Every education institution has its own way of addressing the doubts that the students may have. So, listing down doubts if any is essential part of online learning. After each session, gathering all points and trying to summarize the day’s learning will help too.
- Finish tasks on time – It is imperative that students get into the habit of finishing the given tasks after each session so that they can move on to the next topic. Turning in assignments is not a possibility at the moment. Without peer pressure or seeing peers finish their tasks, being on track with online tasks may seem less motivational since there is no one to check or monitor. Nevertheless, this is a good opportunity to learn accountability and responsibility towards self.
- Discuss and brain-storm – Connecting with friends has taken a new dimension in the present day. While we all connect just to share our thoughts and generally chat, students can try and connect with their friends online to discuss their classes, help each other out and find out how they went about doing their assigned tasks and what better can be done. A discussion always yields multiple perspectives and better learning. Getting a group of friends willing to work with them is a great idea.
