RT-X endeavours to replicate this versatility in robots by developing a single deep neural network capable of controlling diverse robot types—a concept known as cross-embodiment, promising enhanced adaptability and flexibility in robotic systems.
Recent findings suggest that employing large neural network models with substantial datasets enables relatively simple machine learning techniques to harness multi-robot data effectively. By adopting models akin to those used in contemporary LLMs like ChatGPT, the RT-X project can develop robot-control algorithms devoid of specialised features for cross-embodiment. This approach parallels a person's ability to operate a car or ride a bicycle using the same cognitive processes, promising enhanced adaptability in robotics.
