inauguration of the Centre for the Urban Governance and Sustainable Development

The Centre for Urban Governance and Sustainable Development was formally inaugurated with the objective of fostering research, dialogue, and capacity-building on contemporary urban governance challenges and sustainable development practices.

The inaugural event was graced by Mr. Tushar Girinath, Additional Chief Secretary, Urban Development Department, Government of Karnataka, as the Chief Guest. In his address, he highlighted the evolving landscape of urban governance, the importance of sustainable urban planning, and the role of academic institutions in contributing to evidence-based policymaking.

The event was further enriched by the presence of Professor Sairam Bhatt as the Guest of Honor, who shared valuable insights on the intersection of law, governance, and sustainable development. He emphasized the need for interdisciplinary engagement in addressing contemporary urban challenges.

Advocate Dhanya Mallar, the Special Guest, offered practical perspectives on governance, public participation, and the legal frameworks that shape sustainable urban development. Her address inspired students to actively engage with pressing urban issues and contribute to sustainable solutions.

The inauguration marked the beginning of a significant academic initiative dedicated to promoting research, policy engagement, and collaborative action towards creating more inclusive, resilient, and sustainable urban communities.
