SDC Report on Graphic Design

Graphic Design_ Making and breaking the grid

“Making and communicating”

Graphic Design is all around us! Words and pictures—the building blocks of graphic design—are the elements that carry most of the content in both the digital world and the printed world, yet it is always made-up to create a communication goal. As graphic design becomes more visible and prevalent in our lives, graphic design as a practice becomes more important in our culture.

Through visual examples, the course thought the fundamental principles of graphic design: image making, typography, composition, etc., and its implementation in the form of tasks and assignments with history in context.

The goal of the course was to equip the students with a set of transferable formal and conceptual tools in graphic design. This core skill will help for formal studies in graphic design, and a starting point for further work in interface design, motion graphics, branding, portfolio and editorial design.
