Introducing a Young Generation of Grassroot Innovators to the World

Introducing a Young Generation of Grassroot Innovators to the World

In this world run by technology, ideas are the new keywords. Ideathon is igniting young minds and making use of their inherent potential to make them part and parcel of the larger revolution driven by science and technology. In short, Ideathon promotes design thinking and good learning. We are extremely glad to encourage talented, socially and politically conscious individuals through the event. Ideathon is an initiative by REVA University that aims to promote a culture of creativity amongst youth so that they can bring practical solutions to problems around them. What we need now is a generation of grassroot innovators who make use of technology and brains to bring out creative, innovative, and eco-friendly ideas. I believe that students must not be spoon-fed; instead, encourage them to learn by doing. Let children who are curious about certain things try them out by themselves rather than just referring to ‘n’ number of textbooks. This learning is certainly more effective and efficient.

Look around you; there's a lot of scope for creativity. We must raise a generation of curious minds who are inquisitive about learning. Science is everywhere, and I encourage my students to raise questions, think beyond textual information, and put forth their ideas. I and everyone at REVA are ready to listen to them patiently, guide them, motivate them, suggest possible changes, and utilize these ideas sprung from young minds. When we started the Ideathon in December 2020, we were startled by the response from students across the country. After three editions of Ideathon, we realize that the youth just needs encouragement to boost their confidence and problem-solving skills. Their inventions have the potential to bring massive social changes to the country, and their inventions can be the basis for the country’s progress. Most of their ideas originate from basic necessities in life.

The first edition of Ideathon, with the theme "Let's Innovate for a Better Society," breaks the notion that the innovation ecosystem is only for the wealthy and "Big Tech". This edition focused on giving power and life to ideas from graduates (colleges and universities) and school-going kids.
Ideathon 2.0, the second edition of Ideathon, focused on creating a better world and prosperity for all. REVA motivated students from 17 to 22 years of age to come forward and express their ideas in front of a judgment-free environment. This edition promoted the idea that growth will only start when young minds are given a chance to speak.

Ideathon 3.0, the third edition of Ideathon, witnessed ideas from more than 200 premier institutions from Pan-India. Rahul Chari, the Co-founder & Chief Technical Officer of PhonePe, was the chief guest of the event. Few of the excellent pitches that received praise during the event were: Smart Blind Stick, Accident Prevention Glasses, Youth On Duty-Food Wastage, and Smart Helmet.

We look forward to hosting more initiatives and building a platform for budding entrepreneurs, scientists, and change-makers.
